Car finance guide

How car finance works in the UAE

Car finance lets you pay part of the vehicle price upfront and repay the financed balance over an agreed term. DubaiWheels helps you model the numbers before you visit a bank or finance provider.

01

Vehicle price

Start with the actual car or trim price. A higher vehicle price increases both the amount financed and the monthly payment.

02

Down payment

A larger down payment reduces the amount you need to finance. The calculator defaults to 20% and lets you test higher amounts.

03

Finance term

Longer terms can reduce the monthly payment but may increase the overall financing cost. Compare both monthly and total cost.

UAE regulatory reference

The CBUAE Rulebook states that a car loan should not exceed 80% of the financed vehicle value and the maximum repayment period is 60 months. Always verify current rules and your bank’s own terms before applying.

Understand the rate

Flat rate vs reducing rate car finance

These percentages are not directly interchangeable. Looking at only the headline rate can make two finance options look more similar than they really are.

Flat rate

Flat-rate interest is calculated using the original financed amount across the agreed term. UAE banks often advertise car finance using a flat annual rate.

Useful for:Understanding an advertised flat-rate offer.

Reducing rate

A reducing-balance rate applies interest to the outstanding balance as it falls over time. It is often numerically higher than the equivalent flat rate.

Useful for:Comparing financing cost on a reducing-balance basis.
Compare properly

What to compare before choosing car finance

The cheapest-looking rate is not always the lowest-cost option. DubaiWheels puts the key figures together so you can compare the same inputs across products.

Car finance UAE FAQ

Common questions about car finance calculations

These answers are for general information. A bank’s official terms and your personal eligibility determine the actual finance offer.

How much down payment is used for car finance in the UAE?
The calculator starts at the configured minimum down payment. The CBUAE car-loan rule states bank car finance should not exceed 80% of the vehicle value, which corresponds to at least 20% funded outside the car loan. Individual bank requirements can be stricter.
What is the maximum car finance term in the UAE?
The CBUAE Rulebook states a maximum car-loan repayment period of 60 months. Some products or vehicles may have shorter available terms.
Does DubaiWheels provide or arrange car finance?
No. DubaiWheels currently provides anonymous calculations and comparison information only. It does not submit a finance application or make approval decisions.
Are the monthly payment estimates guaranteed?
No. They are indicative calculations based on the price, down payment, term and configured bank information. Actual rates, fees and approval terms are set by the finance provider.
Can I compare Islamic car finance?
Yes. When Islamic finance products are configured, use the Islamic filter in the comparison results.
Can I calculate finance for a car not listed on DubaiWheels?
Yes. Enter the vehicle or trim name and the price manually. The monthly estimate and bank comparison will work in the same way.
What is the difference between flat and reducing rates?
A flat rate is calculated using the original financed amount, while a reducing rate is applied to the outstanding balance as it falls. The percentages therefore should not be compared as if they were the same calculation method.
How do I know what car I can afford?
Use the separate DubaiWheels Car Affordability Calculator to estimate a possible vehicle budget from salary, current monthly commitments, card limits and down payment.
