Interior
The cabin of the Infiniti QX55 might not be the most feature-rich or modern among its competitors. However, there is no dearth of premium-ness in its design and fit and finish levels. With top-notch quality components and layers all around, the Infiniti QX55 succeeds in offering a comfortable experience.
The driver’s cockpit of the Infiniti QX55 looks decent, with a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a traditional instrument console with analogue gauges with a TFT MID in between them. The QX55 offers a unique dual-touchscreen set up in the centre console – one at the top for the navigation system, flanked by vertical AC vents with silver surrounds, and the other at the bottom with traditional knobs and buttons for the infotainment system. The lower centre console has a wraparound design over the co-driver side, which flows towards the back of the centre armrest.
The cabin of the Infiniti QX55 is decently equipped with luxury features like full leather upholstery, powered front seats with heating and ventilation functions, three-zone automatic climate control, 16-speaker BOSE audio system, ambient lighting, and an electrically-adjustable steering wheel.
Exterior
Infiniti has made some extra efforts to make the QX55 look more noticeable, desirable, and striking from the outside. The coupe-like fastback design, coupled with a heightened stance gives it a commendable road presence.
At the front, the Infiniti QX55 comes adorned with the brand’s traditional double arch grille, which gets a chrome finish all around and features a 3D mesh design inspired by Japanese origami. Besides the upper edges of the front grille, the Infiniti QX55 gets wing-like all-LED headlamps incorporating a quad LED projector setup and C-shaped daytime running LEDs. The front bumper comes with C-shaped gloss black surrounds for the LED fog lamps and the lower extended part of the front grille, which merges with the air dam at the bottom.
The Infiniti QX55 looks striking from the side profile, where it exhibits its fastback design in full glory. The steeping coupe-like roofline at the back is what catches most of the attention, backed by the large 20-inch machined alloy wheels. The SUV inspiration can be seen in its wheel arch mouldings and high ground clearance, while for the premium essence, it gets a chrome finish for the window surrounds, door handles, and fender elements.
At the back, the Infiniti QX55 continues its sense of strikingness with the combination of tail lamps with intricate LED elements. While the boot lid design looks clean, the rear fenders beside the boot lid get C-shaped scoops to add some visual drama. The rear bumper, which gets wraparound black garnish over its upper and side parts, houses the twin exhaust ports – one each on either side.
Ride & Handling
The presence of 20-inch alloy wheels in the Infiniti QX55 is not only for aesthetics, but they also help in giving it precise handling, which is backed by the sporty suspension setup of McPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. The overall coupe-like silhouette of the Infiniti QX55 aids in giving it an enhanced sense of aerodynamics over traditional upright SUVs.
Engine & Fuel Consumption
The engine and transmission combination powering the Infiniti QX55 is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with a CVT. Claiming a maximum power output of 270 PS and a peak torque output of 380 Nm, the engine here feels lively. It complements the sporty design of the Infiniti QX55 with its exhilarating power delivery.
Braking & Safety
The Infiniti QX55 is laden with modern safety features like front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, adaptive cruise control with distance control assist, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and prevention, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, predictive forward collision warning, blind spot warning, rear automatic emergency braking, and head-up display.
Verdict
The Infiniti QX55 is high in style and premium appeal on the inside, which should surely give buyers, especially the younger ones, a high sense of desirability. Backed by a strong performance from the powertrain under the hood and a fine balance of ride and handling, the Infiniti QX55 is one option one should not ignore.
